FREQUENTLY ASKED Questions

What to expect during the appointment:

This appointment takes about 2-4 hours. The first part is spent going over your desired shape and color with your artist, so you're both on the same page before starting. Numbing is applied for comfort, then your artist will begin depositing color into the lips. You'll sit with the pigment on for a few minutes while your artist explains aftercare, then reveal your new lip color.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners for 24-48 hours prior, as they can increase bleeding and affect how the pigment sets.

Come with a bare, moisturized lip—no lip fillers within 2-4 weeks of your appointment, and no lip waxing, threading, or exfoliating right before.

Heavily hydrate you lips with chapstick/aquaphor and drinks lots of water for 1 week leading to your appointment

If you're prone to cold sores or fever blisters, let your artist know in advance so you can start a preventive antiviral, since the procedure can trigger an outbreak.

What should I bring to my appointment?

To help your artist nail the color and shape you're picturing, bring along any lipstick, lip liner, or lip tint in a shade you love—or a few photos for inspiration. This gives your artist a clear starting point to customize your color and shape around, rather than building your look from scratch.

Will my lip color fade?

Yes—lip blushing fades gradually over time, allowing for adjustments as your preferences change.

What should I avoid after lip blushing?

Avoid spicy, salty, or acidic foods for the first 3-5 days, as they can irritate healing skin and affect how color retains. Keep lips moisturized with the aftercare balm provided, avoid picking or peeling any flaking skin (this can pull out pigment unevenly), skip lipstick or lip gloss until fully healed, and limit excessive talking, smiling, or lip movement immediately after your appointment to help the color set.

What's the difference between lip blushing and lip filler?

Lip filler is a dermal injectable that adds volume, physically making your lips bigger. Lip blushing is different—it's a semi-permanent makeup treatment, so it doesn't add any volume. Instead, your artist works within your natural lip border (the vermilion border) to add soft color and reshape the outline for better symmetry and definition. This can't make your lips physically fuller, but by refining the shape—like softening asymmetry or enhancing the cupid's bow—it can create the appearance of a bigger, more defined pout. Many clients pair the two: filler for volume, lip blushing for shape and color.

How does it work?

Using a machine, tiny amounts of pigment are gently deposited into the upper layers of the skin to add soft, natural color to your lips. Because pigment fades over time, a touch-up is recommended every 1-25years to maintain results.

Is lip blushing painful?

Discomfort is minimal. A topical numbing agent is applied before the procedure starts, and your artist will reapply numbing throughout the appointment as needed to keep you comfortable from start to finish.
